Who Cooks With That?
I was flipping through the channels last night and I came across Chopped, a Food Network show that pits contestants against each other to see who can cook the best with mystery ingredients. This isn’t to be confused with Iron Chef, which just has 1 ingredient. No, Chopped has several. Last night, they had to make a dessert that included avocado, coffee liqueur, ginkgo beans, and honey comb. Another dish was flank steak, grape juice, lemongrass, and goat cheese.
I don’t cook with a lot of those things individually, much less as a group to create one dish. It really makes you wonder what kind of training chefs go through that they can be handed such items and be told to make a dish in 30 minutes. Time starts now. The critics add a lot to those shows. What makes you qualified to determine if a person made the lemongrass stand out in the dish? I tasted lemongrass once. I don’t remember what it tastes like. Why would I want to? I think I will stick to cooking normal food.
